This is a review for Acoustic Revive USB-1.0SPS twin cable. I have been using this cable with AMR DP-777, one of the most capable sources in revealing the Acoustic Revive special qualities.
This pure solid core copper cable is built with a special shielding. Being single core, and because of its structure, the cable is very stiff, but also robust, durable, and manageable (standard thickness). The advantage of adopting the a “twin cable” design, is in separating the power signal, which is source of interference.
What makes the Acoustic Revive USB-1.0SPS differ from most other high end USB cables, is the unique combination of extension, linearity, warmth and solidity in portraying details.
Most USB cables either put out lots of details, but performing a slight tonal switch towards the upper midrange or treble, or usually make everything slighty softer, more rounded.
By contrast, the Acoustic Revive USB-1.0SPS portrays the details in the music with solid boundaries, without “roughness” nor softness.
Usually, warm cables tend to add some punch around 120 Hz, thus sounding a bit too coloured, where the Acoustic Revive USB-1.0SPS is linear, and deeper in its bass response. Bass extension is often covered by the aforementioned punch (Lindy, Aqvox USB cables), or rolled off (as with the case of iFi Gemini).
When using Stax headphones, with their exceptional speed, what emerges the most with the Acoustic Revive USB-1.0SPS is the refinement through the musical passages, and the bass definition.
When using orthodynamic headphones (such as Aude’ze LCD-3), what sticks the most compared to other cables is the sense of tactile liveliness.
I think these results depend on the cable’s structure and design. Being single core, it manages to tame high frequency interferences: with higher frequencies, the electrical signal travels more and more on the surface of the conductor (because of the so-called “skin effect”). Thus, a single core cable is natively better at minimizing interferences compared to stranded cables. The audible result is that there is less softness and more definition without boosting the treble.
The Acoustic Revive USB-1.0SPS is the kind of component that sounds like “it should”, being extremely natural and transparent. All the colours (all frequencies) have the necessary saturation, so to push out the whole picture and give the illusion of a live event.
Definetiveliy one less variable in the system to worry about.
