Some time ago, my Etymotic ER4P cable broke and I needed to find a replacement. After some research, I settled on the following:
– This cable from EasyDIY seller on AliExpress:
An equivalent one could also work. Anyway, this is what I have, and it is flexible, beautiful, very well made and sturdy. Unfortunately, the Etymotic cable has a have a resistor built-in, with which it reaches an overall impedance of 27 Ohm. The linked cable (like other equivalent cables on AliExpress) doesn’t have a resistor built in, so I needed to compensate. So, I also needed a second item.
– The 20 Ohm 3.5mm impedance adapter:
This impedance adapter brings the whole impedance of the Etymotic to be very close to the one of the original one, producing pretty much the same sound signature of an ER4P with authentic cable.
Since this adapter only comes 3.5mm size, a matching 3.5mm 3 pole plug needs to be chosen for the cable from Aliexpress (so, no balanced connectors or others).
The overall is only slightly bulkier than having a single cable, reasonably cheap, and much sturdier than the original Etymotic ER4P cable.
